Shropshire Wellbeing and Resilience Support
SWaRS
What is SWaRS?
Shropshire Mental Health Support (SMHS) offers a support service called Shropshire Wellbeing and Resilience Support (SWaRS), which uses the Trauma Risk Management (TRiM)model. This bespoke service is designed to provide active listening support to those whose mental health has been affected by being involved in or witnessing a traumatic event or ongoing stressful situation.
TRiM is a model designed to identify stress symptoms early, offering support in both individual and group settings.
At SWaRS, we have a team of compassionate, highly trained non-medical practitioners who understand the impact of traumatic events and continuous stress on individuals. They provide confidential listening, practical advice, self-help information and further support via Shropshire Mental Health Support.
Workplace TRiM support for burnout prevention, stress management and exposure to trauma
We all respond to traumatic experiences in different ways, and the feelings experienced are perfectly normal - it is the nature of the stressful experience that is not normal.
Predicting those of us that may be more vulnerable to experiencing trauma is difficult, as the evidence is not conclusive and because our psychology is complex and, in many ways, different in each of us.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Does it have to be after a traumatic event?
No it is what you perceive as a difficult event that you would like to have support to process. This can be due to a variety of issues that are making your decision-making process more difficult or you are feeling overwhelmed, affecting being present in your job or enjoying life.
Does it only relate to something that is happening now?
It's possible that you experienced a very difficult time in your past, such as being bullied at school, which is now affecting your life. As a result, you might be struggling to connect with your colleagues. We can help you develop coping mechanisms to address these challenges.
Is it like counselling?
We don’t delve deeply into past events or analyse your entire life. Instead, we focus on processing and discussing specific experiences you’ve had. We aim to explore normal reactions to those experiences and determine how we can further assist you.
What if I can’t stop crying?
This can be part of your process in dealing with what has happened to you and expressing your natural emotions. If you feel that you need additional support, we can connect you with various resources through our wider departments. That’s what we’re here for.
